Three Preschool Movement ActivitiesThis week I'll cut right to the chase! Below are three preschool movement activities that I want to share with you! Have fun! Ziggety Zaggety Explain that all rabbits hop in a zig zag pattern. To help get the message across, first take the children outdoors, and help them to make zig zag patterns on the ground with sticks. Secondly, play the game: Let the children know that when you say zig it means to hop to the left and when you say zag it means to hop to the right. Now, say bunny zags 3 times and zigs 2 times. Have the children follow your directions. Once you have done this 3 or 4 times, have each child give directions to the others. Let each person have a turn. Hip Hop Stop Explain that most frogs sit on lily pads, and then hop from one to another. Reproduce and cut out 10 lily pad patterns. These can be colored by the children, or just cut out of green construction paper. Have the children help you number the lily pads by putting a number in the center of each lily pad.(numbers 1 to 10) Write the number fairly largely. Put the lily pads on the floor in an area where you can spread them out and have each child move from lily pad to lily pad. Next use Twister type instructions to have each child play. For example: Put your hand on number 3 and your foot on number 5 etc. If you have a large group of children, separate them into smaller groups and play the game until all groups have had a turn. Waddle, Hop, Jump Explain to the children that many animals make different types of movements, and that they will be imitating a couple of animals of their choice. Talk about various animals and the different movements they make. Next, call out to the children to waddle like a duck. (They can make duck sounds too!), While you are talking about ducks with them doing the movements, call out to them to hop like a bunny. Continue until they have done: gallop like a horse, slither like a snake, swim like a fish, strut like a rooster, jump or leap like a frog, fly like a bird, They should think these up! Play until there are no more animals left...then start making up your own...this should be interesting! Good Luck!!!! More for you next time!
