The weather is starting to turn chilly, and it has been raining nearly everyday. Even though our little ones will be inside for the rainy days, there's no need to fret when it comes to having them do some physical exercises. Following, I have listed some simple, but fun activities that our kids will love! These will help them with their large and small muscles or motor skills, their rhythm, imaging, and even "good sports conduct". Have fun with all that energy!! Pretend you are: 1. A little squirrel running up a tree. 2. Picking apples and putting them in a bushel basket. 3. Sewing buttons on your jacket or coat. 4. Trying to put on a very tight sweater. 5. Putting on warm pants and shoes. 6. Carrying the basket of apples you picked earlier. 7. Eating a huge apple pie, but with NO fork or spoon. 8. Spreading apple seeds in the orchard to grow apple trees. 9. Carrying a big, huge, heavy pumpkin. 10. A little, itty, bitty, baby ghost. 11. Putting on your costume for Halloween 12. Going up and down the steps on a porch, trick or treating. 13. A witch combing her stringy, long hair. 14. A big, fat, black cat. 15. Jumping from hiding to say "Booooooooo". 16. Carving a face on a little, tiny pumpkin. 17. Fall leaves fluttering down to the ground. 18. Raking leaves and putting them into bags. 19. A tall, skinny tree swaying in the wind. 20. A bird who has to fly south for the winter. Walk, Skip and Hop: Designate a place to play this game by putting a piece of masking tape on your floor or carpet that the child will walk, skip or hop to. Give the following instructions: 1. Walk slowly to the tape and back. 2. Hop on one foot. 3. Hop on two feet. 4. Take big giant steps while saying the a,b,c's. 5. Crawl 6. Sing a favorite song and hop. 7. Fly like a bird. 8. Sound like a truck or car. 9. Pretend to run the vacuum cleaner. 10. Cover one eye. 11. Put both hands on your hips and walk backwards. 12. Twirl. 13. Somersault (Best if on a padded carpet or mat) 14. Tap their head while rubbing their tummy. (This is cute!) 15. Roll on their sides. You can ad-lib with all sorts of ideas. You might want to try playing some music too. Follow The Ropes: Get about 6 to 8 different colors of yarn, crepe paper, or rope and lay them across the floor around the room. Each color will be used to perform an activity. (They are designated for a different exercise). (Example: Tell the children the blue rope is for you to walk over. The red rope is for you to crawl over. The green rope is for you to step on, etc.) Once they have done this and practiced it, make a game out of it by having them try to remember what to do when they get to each color rope. If they forget the directions for that rope, they must start over again. This game not only helps with motor skills, but with memory and concentration as well.
