From the time our hearts were developed in our Mothers' wombs, they have been beating nonstop. STOP! Now think about what you just read! NON-STOP! As a matter of fact, our hearts will have made over 2.5 billion beating movements in an average lifetime! That's quite a number and almost eerie!
Finding out about our hearts is usually of great interest to most of us, but especially to kids. Following are some ways that we can ALL take care of our hearts and live longer lives. When we take and look at the heart in a little bit of depth, it is a mysterious, miraculous piece of work. As long as we are alive and breathing, it NEVER stops. It doesn't stop when we sleep. It doesn't stop when we eat. It never stops at all.
Feeling the beats with our hand is truly a remarkable experience, but hearing it beat is even more impressive. There is nothing like the sound of our hearts! Once we think about it beating and pounding, and never, ever stopping, we begin to grow curious about how it does that, and why it does that. What does it look like? How does it work? What can we do to make sure it doesn't stop? Ah! That is the ULTIMATE question isn't it? "What can we do to make sure it doesn't stop?" Well, unfortunately, one day, IT WILL STOP, but there are things that can be done in the meantime to prolong it's stopping. Let's take a look at these things: A. Exercise B. Diet C. Try to Stay Chemical and Drug Free Keeping our hearts in some sort of good condition does not require us to do any sort of strenuous activity. Basically, any activity at all that allows our bodies to move physically for a short (about 30 minutes) amount of time each day will take care of the exercise our hearts need to keep them beating steadily up until that DREADED time. Let's not even think about that, but instead start thinking about all the things you can do to be more physically fit. Heart healthy is the way to go! Eating a variety of foods that are good for us is another requirement to keep our hearts beating strongly. Try to follow the food guide pyramid and all the servings that are listed on it, and by all means, lower your total fat intake. Saturated fat is the real culprit here! Keep it to a minimum!
