Integrated Physical Education

I couldn't wait for this article to be published this week, as I feel this has a plethora of information that all of us would love to use to keep our children physically fit for life!

As I was browsing the Web for interesting sites encompassing Physical Education and lesson plans, I came upon this wonderful site with lessons and ideas for exercising your children physically, and educating them academically all in one shot! This approach is called Integrated Physical Education, and many of us are more than thankful for these ideas. P.E. Central - Classroom Teacher/ Integrated Lesson Ideas gives quite a bit of information. Topic areas include: P.E. Instructional Help, Social Studies, Mathematics, Movement Concepts, Music/Rhythm, Science/The Human Body, Health Projects, Health & Wellness, Outdoor Pursuits, English/Language Arts/Reading. Included as well are assessment ideas and weekly ideas. It even has a link to a page that lists openings for people who are looking for a physical education/health related job. You can submit your resume online for a very small fee.

This specific integrated approach to learning takes content that is academically challenging, and puts the ideas to physical movement. Walk the State Line is an example of this integration, specifically concentrating on the Social Studies content area. Learn the states while becoming physically fit!

Parents, please don't shy away from this site just because it is geared toward the classroom teacher and physical educator. Most of the activities on these pages fit perfectly with our parenting strategies, and the site is designed to help all adults in keeping their children physically healthy and fit.

If you would like even more ideas, this site links to a PEC (P.E. Central) bookstore, as well as another bookstore where more ideas and activities can be gotten. Pleasing as well are the links at the bottom of the site where parents can get even more information if it is needed.

I hope you will take the time to visit the site more thoroughly, not only for your own peace of mind in knowing that you will have activities on hand to play with your children, but for the sheer enjoyment you will get in reading about the activities and ideas, and how to carry them out. You might even want to submit an idea or activity of your own. The reward is well worth it! (Visit the site for more info.)

Join me again in two weeks for more ideas and activities! Now, get busy walking those state lines!
