Assess Your Cardiovascular Endurance

Mar 20, 2001 - © Mindy Herzog

Example:

Jenni

160 pounds

24

Female

15 minutes to finish

Ending Heart Rate of 160

132.853 – (0.1692 x 72.7) – (0.3877 x 24) + (6.315 x 0) – (3.2649 x 15) – (0.1565 x 160)

Do your multiplication first: 132.853 – 12.3 – 9.3 + 0 – 49 – 25 = 37.3 ml/kg/min

Table 1.1 lists the 5th, 30th, 50th, 70th and 95th percentile ratings for VO2max in healthy adults based on age and sex. These data were collected at The Cooper Clinic and The Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas. They can be used as a standard reference database for aerobic fitness classification. Individuals who are clinically healthy but fall below the 5th percentile are most likely deconditioned as a result of chronic inactivity. Values found between the 30th and 70th percentile are from individuals who may or may not exercise regularly. Values above the 95th percentile are found in highly trained athletes.
