According to the editors, the longer-term goal of Noesis is to become the core of "a full-service mechanism to facilitate communication between scholars of the global philosophical community." To that end, the fall of the year 2000 promises to see a merger of Noesis with both Hippias and Peter Suber's Guide to Philosophy on the Internet.

Writing in February 1999, co-editor and system architect Beavers spoke of the potential of the Internet as a medium of serious scholarship in philosophy: "The Internet does not merely allow scholars to disseminate texts in an electronic rather than a print format, it has the potential to transform the practice and value of education in the modern world. I believe that it can do this for the better, provided that it is used to open up a profession, make it available to the public without compromising its integrity, and set it free from commercial interests."

Noesis is making important strides in this laudable direction.
