It's a month before June. You've dreamt of your wedding day your entire life. But now that this big day draws nearer, you start worrying on how to bring out your beauty or better yet, how to conceal your less-than-perfect body features with your wedding gown.
As my mother says, "Don't fret, there's a lot of shapes and styles you can choose from. Whatever your shape or length is, there's always a dress that will make your figure look well proportioned and properly balanced." I remember some years back when my first cousin asked my mother to sew her wedding dress --and the most tricky part was--she didn't have any idea what style to get, and it was just a month before the big day. Luckily for her, coz mom made a great rescuing act. Mom, being a skilled and experienced dressmaker and patternmaker, has worked with a few local (Filipino) fashion designers --most of them designing gowns for wedding and evening wear. And now that I am a writer, what gladdens me is when I call a fashion designer for possible interview I am easily granted a schedule when I say "I am the young girl you was playing beside my mom's table 20 years ago." And now that the month of June is just some nights away, I assigned myself a story on weddings. And so I got to interview, this time not the big names in the industry of gown making, but one of the people who were responsible in making those big names "big". Yes, it's now my mom's turn to share with me her tips. Tips Proper Let's start off by matching your gown with the type of wedding you and your partner preferred. Formal weddings of course call for more formal gowns –longer trains, huge skirts. So if your wedding is informal or outdoors, look for something shorter and lighter. Next step is to think about the style, worry about the beading, fabrics and trains later, she said. If you have a slim, straight figure, in particular--your waist, bust and hip measurements are nearly the same, a gown that gives the illusion of curves is best for you. You may get an A-line skirt that will add a little hip, or a ball-gown, which gives a waist definition. If you have a curvy well-proportioned figure, you may pick whichever style you feel you look terrific with –empire waist, A-line, princess style, sheath, or even a ball gown if you don't want to show off your curves.
