Pharmaceutical Website Savvy

You have just concluded a visit to your physician, paid your bill and are headed for home. Much of what the physician told you is totally alien, including his diagnosis, which you had the foresight to have him write down so you might look it up at your convenience. Sitting on the car-seat beside you are several prescriptions for medications you have never heard of.

There is no immediate anxiety for the doctor did not seem too concerned when the two of you spoke, though there were moments when the words he used hinted at possible future danger to your health if the condition is not treated in a timely manner. Your actions are clear in your mind. Find out everything you can about what the physician uncovered and what the medications were that he prescribed, their actions, side effects, and expected results.

Your thoughts are directed to the web, and sites that would furnish answers to your questions. A quick visit to Yahoo, Alta Vista, or any other of the search engines using the heading Pharmacy yields innumerable possibilities. Where to go? Random entry into any of the offered sites might yield answers to some of your questions, but the hit-or-miss method is time consuming and often unsatisfactory. Besides, most of those sites displayed offer opportunities to make purchases but offer too little in the way of information, and the time needed to explore the offerings would be daunting.

One of the first steps to eliminating the hit-or-miss method is to have at least one source that can direct your search in the right direction. That would be Edmund's Home Page . Basically, Edmund's home page is a "site minder," or directory of numerous links to locations for pharmacy and medicine, nursing and dentistry, nutrition, references, and newsgroups, among others. The page is unencumbered by elaborate graphics, but is self explanatory and the links are smooth and quick, even with slower modems.

Clicking on the Pharmacy sites button whisks you to another page of sites, these more specific to your need to check the drugs prescribed by the physician. Two web locations disclosed are Rxtra and Drug Information links, both yielding further links to the prescription drug information plus information needed to delve deeper into the manufacturers, functions, side effects and other pertinent information.

Moving into the Drug Information page to further your search brings you to several more links including a connection to searchable databases. Here, a new list of sites appears offering numerous locations for the gathering of information of interest concerning the drugs prescribed for you, and cross reference sites to reach for deeper insights into the medications.
