A virtual pet is a pretend pet that is available on the Internet or as a computer game or electronic toy.

Many websites enable pet lovers to have a virtual buddy on their computers. Some computer pets can be a nuisance, while some are fun and educational. The following sites will be of interest to those seeking virtual pets.

Cool Camels

Create your own camel and teach it tricks. Play games with your camel. If your camel makes friends, it can join a caravan or live on a camel farm.

RSPCA Cyberpet

This site is sponsored by the British Humane Society. Adopt and name your virtual pet, then learn how to keep it happy and healthy. You will receive emails from your pet when it is hungry or needs attention. If you go on vacation, you can put your virtual buddy in a kennel.

Virtual Fish Tank

Upon joining, you receive 4 fish that you create and then release into the museum fish tank. You can name your fish and visit the museum time after time. This site is operated by the Museum of Science in Boston.

Virtual Dog

Adopt, feed, train, walk and take care of a virtual dog. This is an interactive companion game where you take your dog on adventures.

Virtual Kitty and Virtual Puppy

Adopt a kitty or a puppy and play with it any time. A complete owner’s manual is provided. You can board your kitty or puppy at the kennel if you go on vacation. You are told when your kitty or puppy is happy or sad.
