How About A Budgie?

Do not feed avocado to birds, it is poisonous to them!

Toys & Exercise
Budgies are active and playful creatures. They love toys and like to chew them. They like bells and swings and anything that will move. Be very careful with toys and make sure all little pieces are tied tightly. Budgies can swallow small beads or pieces of metal. Small toys are best because the budgie needs room to move around the cage. If budgies are bored they will start squawking or start pulling out their feathers. If the budgie is in a cage, rather than a large aviary with birds, it should be let out of the cage every day for exercise and playtime with a human. Some experts recommend buying 2 budgies in order to keep each other company. Budgies love to bond with humans so it is important to spend time with your bird every day.

Grooming
A budgie's toenails should be clipped on a regular basis. Some experts recommend trimming the beak. A pet store or pet care specialist may do it or can teach your parents. Birds love baths. There are bird baths that can be clipped to the side of the cage. Some birds like a shallow saucer filled with a tiny bit of water. Some birds may like to be sprayed with bottle a misting bottle.

Talking
Some budgies can be trained to talk but it's best to start when they are young. It takes a lot of time and repetition to get a budgie to talk. You need to be close to the bird so they can see your lips move. Some budgies will talk quietly and not very clearly. Others will have loud voices and you can actually understand what they are saying.

It takes a lot of time and patience to train a bird but to see them do tricks and talk and cuddle is very rewarding. They make great companions and can keep you entertained for hours. Like any pet, they do need proper care and attention.
