#2 Try to determine the basis for the biting. There are 3 possible reasons; I will only be talking about one of them in detail here: a) Hormonal: If your rat is racing around on his tummy, especially along the edges of the room where the wall meets the floor, and snuffling and chuffing, there's a good chance he's hormonally agressive, which a small percentage of male rats become when they reach puberty. Stewy wasn't this. If yours is: seek more info from experienced ratters who have gone through this (Go to yahoogroups.com, join the Ratlist and post your problem). The usual and very effective solution is neutering but remember, surgery = risk. b) Physical: if you think the animal is biting because he is in pain, from a condition or an injury, get him to a vet. Treating the physical disorder will probably cure the biting. c) Psychological: The animal has been traumatized and abused and is fear-biting people. This was Stewy's problem. If this is the basis for your rats biting, the odds are extremely good that he can become fully rehabilited to a sweet, loving, happy rat. And this is your chance to win a low-cost ticket to Heaven. In next month's article, I'll tell you the method I used to rehab Stewy from a nasty biter to a kissy boy. In about a month.
