Great James Cameron flick about aliens residing in the ocean. They get discovered by Ed Harris & crew who are in peril on a ocean platform/rig due to a storm. One of the crew has a very cute PEW whom he even risks his life to save. Very bonded rat & human. Great special effects. Watch for Directors cut...As always, a much better version. Scabbers is the rat (agouti of course !!)and I think he turns up briefly in most of the Harry Potter movies.

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2 There's a mutant rat at the end of this film that gets pounced on by a cat. Looks seriously fake!

LOVE IN A COLD CLIMATE
The story of an upper class family in the 1920s and 30s told through the eyes of a young cousin who visits regularly. All is not what it seems and the family is quite dysfunctional, however one of the kids has a pet rat which she carries everywhere in spite of the others saying "Get rid of that disgusting thing" etc.

FAWLTY TOWERS TV episode "Basil the Rat"
The health inspector has come to visit Fawlty Towers; however, Manuel has purchased, for the princely sum of 5 pounds, a rare Siberian hamster, that actually is, of course, a rat. Sadly, rats and health inspectors do not get along, and Manuel must hide his pet rat, Basil, who promptly gets loose.
A real agouti was used throughout the episode, except for the final scene in which Basil the Rat must scoot across a floor on cue, then wait patiently in a tin of biscuits (crackers, in American) without eating any. The cute rat scene that's easy to miss is early in the episode, with Basil the Human holding Basil the Rat, discussing what to do with the rat. Basil the Human mentions the rat, and Basil the Rat pops his head up as if he had just heard, "Cue the rat!"

Tommy and Fabrizio step into the hallway of the doomed ship and look down to see a family of rats, their tiny steamer trunks already packed, heading for the gangplank, waving their little, fully-refundable tickets. Tommy: "If this is the way the rats are going, it's good enough for me".
