There are many different types of diets available on the market for our dear pet ratties, so it can be very confusing about which one is the "right" one for them. Most of the commercial mixes that can be found in pet/feed stores are often too high in protein and contain many things that our ratties do not like to eat so a lot is wasted. Lab Blocks are a great diet for your little friends, especially the Harlan and Mazuri brands. Many rat owners, like me, also choose to create their own mixes. Here is the diet that I have created for my ratties: 1 lb box of tri-color pasta 1 lb box of whole wheat pasta 1 container of rolled oats 1 bag of puffed rice 1 bag of puffed wheat Small amount of sunflower seeds 1 bag of Craisens (dried cranberries) 1 box of Total cereal 1 box low fat granola Freeze dried banana chips This diet is given to my ratties daily. I fill a large bowl of this mix once a day and they also have a supply of Mazuri lab blocks available to them at all times. For dinner, they all get a small bowl of either baby rice cereal or baby oatmeal with frozen berries mixed in.
