Find out when your nearest rat organization is having a show, party or get together. Bring the litter along -- you'll have a captive audience of rat people you can sucker into buying them. (Health note: If there will be other rats present, be careful of spreading germs. If you feel comfortable with other people handling the babies, bring a box of those little towelette things and make sure people scrub their hands off before touching them at least!)Start a rattery web page and/or join rat mailing lists on the internet. Get the word out any way you can!Make sure prospective adopters are rat savvy. Give them a handout (like this one or invest in a few copies of Debbie Ducommon's Rat Health Care booklet) explaining rat care and be sure to tell them that they can call you if they have any problems or questions. It's an excellent idea to offer to take the rat back if they find they can't keep it for any reason.
Stay tuned for more on breeding next month.
