This is the time of year when rats are everywhere. True, it's usually a bizarre, twisted form of the ratties we all know and love that's presented to the public, but that means this is the perfect season to change people's opinions! So here are some ways to get your rats out in the limelight to help change their reputation.
Trick or Treat with Your Rats Meet Trick or Treaters with Your Rats Keep your rats with you as you greet the neighborhood ghouls. Some people set up elaborate rat displays on their porch, others just keep a rat on their shoulder. At any rate, this is a great way to convert the next generation! Let willing kids interact with your rats so they can see how wonderful they are. Give extra candy to children who have cool parents that actually admire your ratties! Party with Your Rats Rats make great costume accessories. If you have a rat who won't mind the noise and who loves to sit on your shoulder, wear him/her to any parties you're invited to! Bring a small pet carrier just in case your rat gets overwhelmed or needs to take a break. Don't forget to pack a cut up apple or cucumber to provide food and water as well, or make sure your rat gets a share of your munchies. (You could bring a few rats in the carrier and change every hour or so.) This is a great way to socialize ratties who don't get much exposure to crowds, but could be torture for shy ratties, so be sure to take your rat's personality into account first! Share the Wealth Don't forget to treat your rats as well! If they've been good ratbassadors, they deserve at least half of all the goodies you collect. (I'm being held at claw-point as I type this....) Actually, sugary stuff is not really good for rats, so go easy on it. Chocolate in small amounts is fine, but, again, don't go overboard. Fruit is a great treat - cut up an apple or pear for your rats to share. You can also try dried fruit, but most rats will turn up their noses at raisins - sweet dates or figs are a bit more popular. And don't forget pumpkin pie, which is a big hit! Or you could try Ben's recipe, which follows: Go To Page: 1 2
