Rat Food Recipes on the Web

Are your rats tired of the same old seed mixes and lab blocks? Are you looking for a yummy recipe you can all share? Then it's time for a change of pace and some fun in the kitchen! Here's a list of some Web sites that cover the best of cooking with and/or for your rats:

Cooking With Rats

Well, this isn't really what I had in mind, but it's a great, fun place to start! Michael Fichtenmayer's tongue-in-cheek rat recipe site might get your ratties a bit worried, but it's got lots of cute, funny pictures. Don't let your rats worry too much, tho', the rest of these sites are perfectly serious about food!

FatRat's Recipe Page

This site is geared more for human consumption, but you just can't beat the title! Fat rats everywhere will doubtless enjoy a helping of Pasta and Beans or Vegetable Lasagna. And what about Oatmeal Raisin Peanut Butter Cookies or Applesauce Cake? They sound like winners to me! My mouth was watering going through this page, and I can't wait to try some more of these recipes.

This is part of the RMCA's web site and has some terrific ideas for food your rats will gobble up happily. Our rats especially love the Low-Fat Burritos and the Yummy Rattie Rolls. The Organic Grain Mix sounds wonderfully healthy, but unless you have a good health food store nearby, some of the more obscure grain ingredients may be hard to find. I hope to find a good supply of these so I can try it someday!

More Rat Recipes

This is a continuation of the former page with a few more easy, yummy treats to try. Our rats go crazy over the Peanut Butter Crunch and the Seed Crunchies. These recipes are very efficient - they're easy, make lots and store well so that you can keep a bunch of treats on hand. And, of course, you can never go wrong with a good Fresh Fruit Salad.

Vermin Brewing

After all that cooking, pull up a chair, relax and have a virtual glass of Norway Rat Arctic Ale from Vermin Brewing. While you're there, check out their WanderRat Newsletter, which includes enthralling tales of travel to rattie sites around the globe, as well as the requisite stuff about beer. Also, don't forget to check out their absolutely adorable mascots.

Do you have any recipes your ratties love that you'd like to share with our readers? Know of any rat cooking sites I've missed? Please feel free to send them to me and I'll collect them in a future column.
