How to Hire the 'Purrfect' Pet Sitter

When your vacation plans cannot include the furry member of the family, selecting an in-home pet sitter may ease your mind. There are many benefits associated with this service for both you the homeowner and your pet. However, how do you know the pet sitter you hire is the right one for you?

- Ask the sitter if he/she will visit your home beforehand. This is important not only for an exchange of information, but it gives you the opportunilty to see how your pet reacts to this person. -Is the sitter comfortable with your pet?Is the sitter upbeat and friendly? Does your pet appear to be at ease? -Does the sitter have commercial liability insurance? Is she/he bonded? Ask to see documentation. -What kind of experience does the sitter have? Can she/he dispense medication?Do CPR? -Leave the name and telephone number of someone you trust to make decisions regarding your pet in case the sitter cannot reach you. Establish an emergency plan. -If your veterinarian is not available does the sitter have a vet she/he can call? -If your siiter gets sick, is there someone responsible to fill in for them? -Make sure to get a written contract detailing the services to be provided, and the fees associated with each service. -Does the sitter belong to a professional pet sitters association? The three most known are the NAPPS (National Association of Professional Pet Sitters),PSI (Pet Sitters International)and Pet Sitters Association, LLC.
