Book Review: "Think & Act Like a Winner" by Rob Wilson

Rob Wilson is a professional speaker, sales trainer, success coach, and CEO of A Million Miles of Motivation. This year, he also became a book author with Think & Act Like a Winner: An Indispensable Guide to Personal Performance. Mr. Wilson has observed firsthand the qualities that successful men and women have developed. He has recorded his observations in this concise collection of essays on those qualities, providing pointers on how others can apply universal principles to achieve their goals.

The book contains 21 sections, listed below. Each is devoted to a particular universal principle or personal quality. Anecdotes and behavioral recommendations are provided to help readers understand the principle or quality and learn how to develop it in themselves. Relevant inspirational quotations end each section.

Section 1: Abnormality
Section 2: Break Your Comfort Zone!
Section 3: Charisma
Section 4: Creativity
Section 5: Know-How
Section 6: Dream Your Success
Section 7: Instinct, Intelligence, & Intuition
Section 8: Map It Out
Section 9: Purpose & Direction
Section 10: Vision
Section 11: Initiative
Section 12: Guard Against Neglect
Section 13: Appreciation
Section 14: From Whiner to Winner
Section 15: Search for Greatness
Section 16: Tell the Truth
Section 17: If It's Meant To Be, Then It's Up To Me!
Section 18: Vocabulary
Section 19: Do Over
Section 20: Beware of the Golden Handcuffs
Section 21: Clean Up Your Mess . . . If You Want Success!

For example, in the section on know-how, the author defines know-how and challenges readers to understand how important know-how is to growth and success. He provides seven practical and motivational behaviors (with more detail than what is quoted here) for enhancing one's know-how:

Find someone who has already successfully done what you want to accomplish, and stick by them. . . .

Accept that what you know isn't enough . . . Keep learning a life-long proposition. . . .

Read! . . . If you read one book a month, you will learn enough to accomplish the equivalent of a college degree in less than five years. . . .

Listen to vocabulary tapes--Vocabulary determines intelligence to those who don't know you. . . .

Assess the knowledge and skills you currently have . . . If you don't assess what your know-how is, how will you enhance it? . . .

Make a list of the knowledge and skills you need to arrive at your desired destination . . . . then get them! . . .

Know that if you're not getting better, you're getting worse.

A relatively "quick read," this book power-packages both commentary and sound advice to provide readers with a swift burst of enlivening encouragement.
