Music To Your Ears

Chris Salazar is the owner and president of Dare2BU Records, a record company that produces songs with exclusively positive messages.

Personal Development: What makes your record company different from any other?

Chris Salazar: The major difference between us and other record companies is that we are more interested in the quality of the lyrics to a song.

We are militant in our belief that every song must be a message of success or remind one of the keys to success.

Our Songs of Success are musical affirmations that people can remember more easily than the words in a book or in self-help tapes. Don’t get me wrong . . . I love motivational books and self-help tapes--only music is more memorable.

PD: How did Dare2BU Records come about?

CS: In February, 1998, I wrote an article for a national magazine (Mortgage Originator), titled, “The Music of Success.” The main theme of the article was that music is memorable. I realized then that most love songs tell about the negative aspects of love while only a few have a positive message.

But R. Kelly’s, “I Believe I Can Fly,” was an inspiration.

I asked readers for suggestions of other positive songs. I received many, started collecting them as a personal hobby, and then my passion blossomed into Dare2BU Records.

PD: What do you think makes Dare2BU music such a source of inspiration?

CS: Music gives something that expresses such a passionate feeling that is hard to compare to all other forms of communication. With Dare2BU music, a person can listen to 12 distinct songs consecutively that have the same positive message, giving the listener the greatest opportunity to immerse the positive message into his or her mind, and therefore into his or her life.

PD: You currently have two compilations of uplifting music available--Songs of Success I and Songs of Success II. How do you decide which songs Dare2BU will produce?

CS: We invite focus groups to our office to critique songs and we obtain comments on beat, lyrics, and messages. I am constantly on the lookout for eligible songs, with currently over 120 songs being considered for future versions.

PD: Can Songs of Success help people in their businesses as well as in their personal lives? If so, how?

CS: Songs of Success has proven to be an inspiration to such diverse groups of people as a high school senior and a mature business owner.
