It's the Thought that Counts

In this gift-giving time of year, remember that it's not the monetary price of a gift that matters; it's the thought behind the gift that counts.

And thoughts count for a lot.

The power of thought has long been acknowledged. Consider the following thoughts on the power of thought.

"Thoughts which a man [or woman] deliberately places in his own mind, and encourages with sympathy, and with which he mixes any one or more of the emotions, constitute the motivating forces, which control and direct his every movement, act, and deed." --Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich

"Thoughts are powerful. All the spectacular and terrible creations of humanity began as thoughts--an idea if you will. From the idea came the plan and from the plan came the action and from the action came the object. . . . The only difference between a thought and a physical reality is a certain amount of time and physical activity." --John-Roger and Peter McWilliams, You Can't Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought

"All that you achieve and all that you fail to achieve is the direct result of your own thoughts. . . . As you think, so you are; as you continue to think, so you remain." --James Allen, As You Think

"One of the reasons that the power of rational thinking goes unrecognized is that it is so seldom used." --Maxwell Maltz, Psyco-Cybernetics

"An interesting thing about energy—in a world of opposites: up and down, black and white, fast and slow—is that there is no opposite for energy. This is because there is nothing that is not energy, including you and me and everything we think. Thinking both consumes and creates energy, or, to be more accurate, it converts energy. . . . Can thoughts influence things? Of course; energy can. Can thoughts influence events? Of course; energy can." --José Silva and Philip Miele, The Silva Mind Control Method

"Think success, don't think failure. . . . Thinking success conditions your mind to create plans that produce success. Thinking failure does the exact opposite. Failure thinking conditions the mind to think other thoughts that produce failure." --David J. Schwartz, Ph.D., The Magic of Thinking Big

How can you produce more positive thoughts? Following are a few techniques.

1. Analyze messages you receive to decide for yourself if they are true or not and how you will react to them.

Suppose a co-worker said to you, "You put on a few pounds over the holidays, eh, old pal?" Will you let an offhand remark like that ruin your day? Or will you use the power of thought to let it roll off your back?
