What Kind of Person Are You?

© Sheila Cohill

You are a multifaceted human being. You are capable of feeling one way while behaving out of line with that feeling, or vice versa. You can feel or act differently in reference to the same matter in the space of a few minutes. You are capable of thinking about something and coming to opposing conclusions that both make logical sense.

To categorize a human being despite his or her many sides might seem impossible. But that is exactly the task that many personality tests attempt. Some do a good job; some don't. But if these types of tests do anything at all, they at least prompt people to stop and think about themselves: their feelings, thoughts, and actions. There is a danger in relying solely on the results of a personality test, but test results can help provide some insight.

Presented here are several different types of personality tests that you can take online for free. They all are anonymous, so if you're worried that someone might find out something about you, or worse, publicize it, don't. These tests are purely for your own edification. Do one or more for help or for fun, but remember that if you feel you really need help, consult a professional counselor offline.

The Keirsey Character Sorter

The Keirsey Character Sorter provides a rough indication of your temperament. It has 36 questions total, given in two parts. Part 1 contains 16 questions for which you must rate four statements on a scale of 1 to 4, with 1 being the most preferred statement and 4 being the least preferred statement. Part 2 contains 20 questions for which you must select one statement over another; you can skip some of these if making the choice between the options is difficult.

The test takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

After your responses are scored, you are told which out of the four possible temperaments you have (a description of your temperament is provided through a link), and you are also told what your variant temperament is (again, a link provides a description). Your score sheet also provides a graphical review of your preferences.

Classical Intelligence Test

This Classical Intelligence Test provides a rough indication of your intelligence. It has 60 questions, including some math, pattern detection, and more. You must answer all questions to get a score.

It takes about 45-60 minutes to complete this IQ test, although there is no time limit. You can use a calculator, pen/pencil, and paper to take the test.
