The Newest - The Best???If computer trends seem to have one theme, it would be that newer is better. "Keeping up with the Gateses" is a theme which occurs all too often in the computer world. The fear of not having the most compatible and the fastest computer is a phobia of our age. One of the saddest and most untrue statement is that "If it's six months old, it's out of date!" That kind of attitude is very sad! It can give us the feeling that our equipment is inadequate. As a result we will likely purchase the newer, "BETTER" equipment which we probably can't afford, and may not need. The reality of life is that most of what we own has been ours for awhile. The cars we drive usually are at least 18 months old according to the national average. When was the last time we moved into a brand new home? Do we throw away each piece of clothing and then start completely new each time we dress? However, we as computer users will probably spend more time considering the upgrade of our toothpaste than that of our computer systems. It's time to stop and make the same mature decisions about computer buying that we use to make our other purchases. Software purchases are one of the major reasons for making major changes in a computer system. Before buying that next piece of software we should take a look at what is required to run it. We should then ask ourselves, is it worth what it is really going to cost? Make it a good day! Ross
