Post-it Notes® Prevention

When a woman's estrogen level is lower, difficulty concentrating and forgetfulness are two possible results. I can personally attest to these symptoms. It's getting to be an almost comforting habit now. But Post-it Notes® are saving my butt.

I walk into the kitchen and by the time I've walked 12 feet I've forgotten why I'm there. I walk back to the office and sit there for a moment, wondering why I went into the kitchen. I gaze across my desk and find my glasses lying on a greeting card. Oh, yes, I wanted to get some confetti out of the kitchen drawer to slip into the card. I get up, go into the kitchen and before I get to the drawer I've forgotten why I walked into the kitchen. I throw up my arms in frustration. I turn to back to the office and am facing the refrigerator. I figure I may as well eat something while I'm there.

I walk back into the office and sit down at the computer. I look out the window and watch clouds forming and a flock of sparrows flying overhead and landing on the tree with no branches next door. I look down and see my glasses lying on a greeting card. Damn! I pick up my glasses and walk into the kitchen. The doorbell rings. It's the FedEx guy with a package from a client. I sign for it, take it back into the office and sit down. I put my glasses down so I can open it and, as I do so, realize I've put them on top of the greeting card, which reminds about the confetti.

I pull out a Post-it Note® and write down "confetti." I tear off the Note and walk with it into the kitchen. I open the kitchen drawer, get the confetti bag and bring it back into the office. I fill out the card, address the envelope and, before I forget again, pour the confetti into the card. I put a stamp on the envelope and walk it out to deposit it in the mailbox.

It's been like this for months. Post-it Notes are my saving grace. Instead of making To-Do lists, I now use Post-it Notes. Since I've lost the ability to multi-task, I now concentrate on doing things one at a time. I write a task or reminder on a Post-it Note and as I do each one, I throw away the Post-it. If I need to, the Post-it becomes my travelling reminder. Post-it Notes end up in my wallet, on my refrigerator, on my computer screen - even on the bathroom mirror.
