Gossip, embellish, fabricate. Don't simply write words on paper. Live the words! Breathe them! Dream them. Eat them! Learn to convey poems without employing words. Focus on the non-verbal and the imagistic.

Embrace genuine criticism. Cultivate a readiness to listen to and receive the reactions of others.

Mind the rhythms - a poem has a rhythm that is either true or less true to itself. Where there is a problem with the rhythm you can bet there will be a problem with the poem. Poetry, like drama, like music, is a time-art. It has to do with navigating images and sounds - it is about managing time.
