This sounds like powdery mildew to me. It's quite common in verbena

Then there is the kind of verbena that is meant to have silvery leaves, but I'll assume that what you are alluding ...

I'd start them indoors with a little bottom heat. You might have sufficient heat on top of your fridge of maybe your hot water heater to germinate them. If it feels a bit warm, that's all they need. ...

i saved over seeds from my gerbera daisies from last fall. any special advice on how to successfully propagate these seeds? anything i need to do but plant them in the dirt and water 'em? ...
