The Ark, A Type of SalvationThere are many great examples of faith in Bible history, but none are as great as Noah. For 120 years Noah preached to his generation that the Lord was going to rain judgment upon them. We have seen the cruelty of man. Noah could not possibly have gone without reproach. Not only would he have been the local, joke, he would have been hated for his righteous life and condemning words. People harbor murderous hatred for those who expose the evil in their lives. Through all this, Noah raised a family to believe in God. To bring him further grief with his neighbors, there was this giant eye sore of a boat which was to carry him away to safety when "the flood" came. What he must have went through building this thing. He watched as death took each one of his grandfathers. Finally he and his sons were the last of a family of believers. Yet his faith was strong enough to stand the test of time. Noah was instructed specific measurements and building requirements when God commanded him to build the ark. He was told to make rooms in the ark, and that it should be three levels. He was to make one door and one window, and to cover it with pitch inside and out. He was told to gather food for his family and for the animals (male and female of every kind, and seven of the species if it was clean - that is good to eat). Some common questions are about the large animals including the dinosaurs. The Bible does not specify about species or age of the animals, but large animals could easily fit on the ark if they were young. The subject of dinosaurs in not unattended in scripture, for it speaks of fire-breathing dragons, and sea serpents, but this is another subject. It is safe to say if dinosaurs were still roaming the earth in Noah's day, they boarded the ark. Much can be said about Noah's ark, but the most important point is that the ark is a type of spiritual salvation. A "type" in the Bible is picture of another event that will happen in the future. Each character represents a character in the future event. There was only one door in the ark. Jesus said, "I am the door. By me if any man enter in he shall be saved". God closed the door behind Noah and his family. God is the one who decides when the opportunity to believe in him will end. Forty is the number of judgment. Judgment was rained upon the earth for forty days and forty nights and the waters of God's wrath covered the whole earth. Judgment will come again, and it will cover the whole earth. There was only one way for man to survive. They had to board the ark. The judgment that will come upon all mankind which is yet to come can only be escaped through Jesus Christ. After the flood, the earth experienced a "rebirth". After the final judgment, there will be a "new heaven" and a "new earth".
