This week's article looks at using the Start Menu Programs option. The article looks at the following things:
Adding Programs To start off, it is necessary to call up the Start Menu Programs which is available by clicking Start...Settings...Taskbar and Start Menu...Start Menu Programs. Why would we need to use this? It is necessary sometimes as not all programs install program icons (particularly old programs or some shareware titles). In these cases, when you want to run the program from a menu, you need to add the icon yourself. Follow these steps to do it:
This is the name of the program and any arguments it needs in order to run. Usually, programs that require arguments are DOS programs (such as games). These programs use a PIF (program information file) which contains these details. It is easiest to click on the 'Browse' button and search for the file. Note that this is likely to be a .EXE, .COM, .BAT, .APP or .PIF file. DOS (games) tend to use a .PIF or .BAT file to run. Windows applications tend to use .EXE files (these will show up as an 'application' if you use the 'Details' setting in the explorer window that appears). Once the program file has been found, click on the 'Next' button.
Removing Programs To remove an item from a menu, follow these steps:
