'Twas the night before Christmas...

'Twas the night before Christmas - not a creature stirred - not even a mouse. Well it wouldn't would it? I've put down on my Christmas list to my true love that I need a new mouse this year. Mine seems to have a life of it's own which has nothing to do with what I want to do.

God - these computers! Dedicated readers of this column may remember last year that my true love bought me a PC for Christmas (if you haven't seen this article - look for the "12 Days of Christmas"). I thought it was time I bring you up to date on my "experiences".

I finally got my database working and have catalogued all my Kodak pictures. The week after I finished entering all the data, I found a piece of shareware that will do this automatically for me. Well there was a waste of three weeks work!

I've also sorted out my printer printing blank pages every time I boot my PC up - hurray! Know how I did it? I switched the printer off and left it until I needed it (even though you are supposed to be able to leave it on all the time). So much for all these printer drivers and their "smart" technology.

Been busy with the old "Y2K" problem. At first I thought it was simply renaming months to "Januark","Februark" and so on ("Y" to "K") but apparently this wasn't it. I've been checking up on the old web sites to see if my software and hardware is "compliant". I got all excited at first when I saw downloads to make "your hardware and software compliant" - "Wow" I thought - "Jackpot!" This is a joke. My machine has never been compliant - always seeming to have a will of its' own and often refusing to do what I want. After downloading said software nothing appeared to happen (oh - unless you call losing even MORE disk space a happening!). Anyway, If the world ends on 1st Jan then my PC will carry on working! (There's a comfort there somewhere but I'm not sure I can see it!).

Did you see all that fuss about Bill Gates and Microsoft taking on the US government? Whoa! What's THAT all about? So he puts an Internet browser into the Windows operating system. So what? If other browser makers want people to use their browser instead of Bill's - write a better browser! Here's my list of enhancements...
