Planning a Baby Shower© Becky Doland
When someone close to you is expecting, you may find yourself with the task of throwing a baby shower. Here are a few ideas to help you put on a celebration that the mom-to-be and all your guests will love.
First of all, you'll want to shop for decorations and party favors. Personally, I like practical party favors, things that can be used later. Purchase little, inexpensive baby toys that you can use for decoration, and that the mother-to-be can take home for the baby. Blocks can be stacked in little groupings in the table. Rattles can be used for napkin rings. Pretty baby bottles and child drinking cups can be grouped in a centerpiece as if they were vases of different heights. Put a few flowers in each one. Another idea is to ask the new parent's families for pictures of them when they were babies. Put them in pretty baby-themed or silver frames for another table grouping. The mother-to-be can also take the frames home to display the new baby pictures in. As for the menu, you can either serve a sit-down luncheon, or line up a buffet of light dishes. Quiche and salad is easy and elegant, whether you make the quiche yourself or get frozen ones. And consider something other than the usual green salad. A carrot salad with raisins and pineapple would be special and colorful. Cake is the traditional shower desert, and I urge you to find someone who makes tasty and fun cakes with a baby theme. I've made cakes that look like a baby's bib, or a baby in a swing, or even a pastel-frosted train with a stork conductor and little babies waving from the windows! If you don't know anyone, check with friends, try the yellow pages, or ask at party stores or cake and candy supply stores.
New babies are wondrous, and the expectant mother will be the centerpiece of her shower! With a little planning, everything will be beautiful and welcoming, and the baby shower will be a time of celebration for everyone attending. Don't forget to take pictures! Go To Page: 1
