Parrots: Jewels with Wings

These cases are not as rare as you might think, and you can see the pattern here. Most parrots are believed to have the intelligence of a two year old child, and the personality to go right along with it! That is why, when thinking of acquiring a parrot, it is always best to think it over very carefully. If and when you do decide to get a parrot as a companion, you need to remember what I just said and consider the life expectancy of the bird as well. They live a long time, and they are, perennially, (that's forever, until the day they die) a two year old.

Yes, it's a monumental commitment. Think about your last encounter with a two year old. Owning a parrot is just like that. It can be a challenge. Are they stubborn? Yes, they certainly can be. Do they throw fits, pout, manipulate and scream like a child? They just might. Challenging? Yes. But, rewarding and wonderful? Oh, absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I think that when you consider the popularity of parrots and why they make great pets, their personality has to be one of the top reasons for owning one. It's the main attraction when it comes to parrots and their people.

History shows us that the parrot has been a beloved friend and companion to humans for centuries. However, to really admire and appreciate these birds, you just have to make friends with one. Once you do, you'll be hooked, just like the rest of us.

I personally now divide my life into two categories: "parrot" and "before the parrot" eras. And I keep asking myself this one question: what DID we do before we had that bird? (sigh) I know that we kept ourselves entertained somehow, but I am willing to bet that whatever we did, it was not nearly as much fun!

Indeed, parrots have brought joy to countless owners across the span of time. So, until next time, don't get your feathers ruffled!
