The All Natural Approach

Hi there, birdie buddies! Before we get going, another contest bulletin. All I can say is, keep sending in those great pictures! Thanks for the response.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Let's see, we have discussed good nutrition and the importance of finding the right vet. So this month, we visit another health care issue: homeopathy and probiotics.

Lots of people have heard of homeopathic health care, but few relate it to birds. In fact, some parrot owners are not at all familiar with or rely totally on this all natural approach to avian health care. And, I, too am in the middle of the road on this one, folks. I think that a proper home health care schedule requires good balanced nutrition, with vitamins, minerals and probiotics when needed, working hand in hand with a qualified avian vet. This sort of balance in nutrition, homeopathic therapy and vet care should improve and prolong your bird's life. And that's what I do for my bird. However, I have heard of some parrot owners out there who rely exclusively on homepathic remedies as the only health care regimen for their birds. I say, if it works for them, great. But I have yet to go that far.

I realize that by now, some of you probably think, "what the heck is she talking about? I don't even know what a homeopatha-thingamajig is!!" So let's get our terms defined. We'll review "nutrients"; we should all know what nutrients are. They are the basic materials needed to maintain normal bodily functions. Nutrients are involved in all processes in the body, from fighting infections to fixing injuries.
