Ah, summer. What a relaxing time of year. At least for us. We aren’t involved in Little League, so we don’t have to worry about tournament upon tournament upon tournament. We don’t do soccer, so we aren’t worried about travel teams. So, for us, it is a time of year when we sports are purely recreational, not competitive. There is basketball camp for two weeks, but it doesn’t last all day, and it takes place right across the street from the pool. My son rides his bike to basketball, then goes to the pool afterwards.
We see summer as a chance to let the kids be lazy. One of my best friends sees it as a time to give her son a chance to play as many sports as possible. He plays baseball and soccer, and takes regular lessons in tennis and golf. Another friend uses the summer days to encourage his kids to try new sports, ones they don’t have time for during the regular season. I hope you and your young athletes are enjoying summer the way you enjoy most. My son and I like to listen to baseball games on the computer and talk about our favorite team. We watched the All-Star game. This summer, we’re making the most of being spectators rather than players. Happy summer, everyone. Go To Page: 1
