WHAT CUTE THINGS DID ALEC AND LOGAN SAY?

UPDATE: Before I start this article. I have an update about little Grace from my last article. During her first week, the hospital did a MRI of her brain and at 3 weeks old she came home. Grace is expected to make a full recovery with no brain damage at all. She has 100% blood flow to her brain and the doctors say that there is no reason that she won’t be as normal as her sister is. Talking with her mother, I am struck by the miracle that has presented itself to everyone. In 3 weeks, my friend went from not knowing if her little girl was even going to live to having 2 healthy baby girls at home. She is convinced that prayer played a huge part in this miracle and I have to agree. I don’t know what else could have changed the outlook for Grace’s life expectancy. I am happy to report that the 4 of them are getting their lives into a normal routine (as normal as life can be with twins) and that I am getting lots of phone calls with many questions about raising twins.

The other night we had friends over for dinner. Our friends have a 17-month old son who is just starting to talk coherently. He says the cutest things and after going over records of what my boys said – I have come to the conclusion that all babies say about the same things. The difference with my twins was that Alec started saying all these normal baby words and about a month later – Logan started. I didn’t realize this until I went back over my records – a whole month apart! They both started saying things like “Da da” around 10 months and then Alec jumped way ahead.

I will say again how important it is to write all of your baby’s accomplishments down. Not only is it really fun to read them again when your children are older; but it can come in handy later. When Logan was about 3 years old he was still not talking very much. We were worried that he might have a hearing problem; so we had his hearing tested. No problem with hearing; but the doctor said it could be a speech problem. So, off we went to a speech therapist to have him tested. This is where my records came in handy. The speech therapist was able to take these records and chart his speech patterns. She was amazed that I had kept all this information and through it (and interviewing and tests) she figured out that Alec was doing all the talking for Logan. It was because of this that Logan was talking in 1-2 word sentences. If your child (especially if you have twins and 1 is not talking as much) is slow at talking, have him/her tested! Don’t feel bad about this – you should see Logan now; can’t shut him up!! Way later I’ll talk about how this speech problem prompted us into making a huge decision about their schooling; which is a big twin discussion – one classroom or two!
