When we first moved into our new house, we automatically put the boys in separate bedrooms. We did this because it had been working in the rental house and the boys had been sleeping really well. After a while, we decided to turn the extra upstairs bedroom into a den. This meant, of course, that we would have to move the boys back together into one room. So we did and the boys adapted fairly well to being back together again.
I decided to do this weaning slowly. I started by telling the boys that they would only get bottles and binkies at naptime (the bottle thing was fairly easy, but the binky thing; that took way longer). I also moved from 8 ounce to 4 ounce bottles at nap and bedtime. So, I was on my way – I had the bottle thing going and was working on the binky thing. Now I had to work on them falling asleep on their own, instead of on me. I really enjoyed cuddling with the boys and having them fall asleep – so this was actually hard on all of us. The first thing I worked on was naptime. We moved from the recliner to the sofa. The boys cuddled up against me – one on either side – and had their bottles and binkies and would fall asleep cuddled against me. I would then attempt to lay one down and then the other and go about my day. After we did this for a week or so, I moved on to having them cuddle with me to drink their bottle and then I would have them lay down on the sofa next to me. I would rub their backs and they would fall asleep, already lying down on the sofa. I couldn’t believe how easy this was. It worked so well, that I even got both boys and their friends to fall asleep one day. I was the queen of naptime! Ok that’s going a bit far – but it did work and I got a lot of other work done while they were napping. I still took some naps myself; I just did it without two boys sleeping on me. Go To Page: 1 2
