HOW MANY PEOPLE COME TO A TWINS BAPTISM ANYWAY??

We only had a few days in South Dakota before the baptism and, oh boy, were we busy.

One of the first days ‘home’ we met with the Pastor who married us and now, 6 years later, was going to baptise our twin sons. Because of the weight differences of the boys, I usually carried and held Alec – a 2 pound difference is a 2 pound difference!! When we met with the pastor, he was very concerned with being able to tell the boys apart. So, we told him that I would have Alec and Steve would have Logan (because of the 2 pound weight difference) and therefore when he held the boys to introduce them to the congregation, he would be holding Alec on the left side and Logan on the right. Well, if you have children, you know that nothing goes as planned. The morning of the baptism, Logan decided to be very fussy – so I ended up with him and Steve ended up with Alec. When it came time for the pastor to hold the boys and introduce them to the congregation, they were not with the parent they were supposed to be with, so he had them mixed up and said something like, “I think this one is Alec and this one is Logan, but I could be mistaken.” We, of course, thought it was quite humorous LATER when we had a chance to think about it and relax.

Picking Godparents for our boys was a very difficult decision. There were no “couples” we felt comfortable asking and we would have asked our friend, Jackie, but that was only 1 person and we wanted 2 god parents since there were 2 babies. Finally, we decided on asking our 2 favorite cousins if they would be godparents. As it turned out, my cousin could not attend the baptism, so my best friend, Judy, stood in for her. We are glad about who we choose and they have turned out to be great Godparents (even though my cousin has yet to meet her godchildren).

While we were ‘home’, we took the boys to meet my Grandma and Grandpa. My grandma was in a nursing home and even though she really didn’t understand whom she was seeing, I will be forever greatful that she was still alive to meet them and touch them. Grandpa on the other hand, was completely amazed that I was able to give him 2 great-grandchildren at the same time. He held them and looked at their fingers and toes and just smiled; it was amazing seeing my grandpa holding his newborn great grandsons, 3 generations younger than him. Both grandparents are gone now, but the pictures and memories of that day will be with me forever.
