72 hours in the hospital - I'll get plenty of rest!

I think one of God's greatest gifts to us is the miracle of childbirth! It is a miracle that a woman and a man are able to produce a child and have that child grow inside the woman for 9 months. And then to have that child be born and live and grow is simply amazing. Now you make that 2 babies developing inside a woman and being born and you have a double miracle! The fact that a woman can nourish one baby is amazing, but more than one and it's just spectacular. When you get into what we in the "multiple birth" circle call "Supertwins" (more than 2), then words cannot describe it.

So, here we were in the hospital and still trying to understand this miracle that had happened to us. Two healthy baby boys and they were our sons!!! It took a few days for that sink in, in fact it still takes my breath away some days. It also took us a few days to get used to the idea of being parents to these two little babies.

I don't remember a lot that happened the night the boys were born. There are bits and pieces, but mostly I remember being really tired and wanting to sleep. After they were born and the doctor finished with me I was wheeled into recovery room. I was in this room for about 3 hours because my oxygen level was a bit low. It's ironic to me that the boys never needed any oxygen after birth and I did!

The "Duramorph" they gave me during the surgery made my nose itch and I kept taking the oxygen mask off to scratch. My level would go down, the nurse would panic and make me put the mask back on. A few minutes later I would take it off to scratch again. Also during this time I was all of a sudden very hungry! I told the recovery people this and they asked me what I wanted. I told them pizza sounded good and they laughed. Turns out that I would be on a liquid diet for the next couple days - fun!

One wonderful thing that I do remember right after the boys were born was that I could breath! Just seconds after Logan was born I remember taking a very deep breath and thinking, "Wow, I can breath again!" The last month or so of the pregnancy I could never take a really deep breath unless I was in the hot tub (remember the heat was off) and now I could! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
