Hospital and Parenthood … Here We Come!Whoa - talk about nervous!! The twins were on their way and were we ready?? NO WAY!! I mean, I was ready to not be pregnant anymore, but were we ready for the babies to arrive - NO! Were we ready to be parents - NO! Would we ever be ready? I doubt it!! We left the doctor's office and headed home to get my suitcase. While we were there we also called both our parents to let them know they would soon be grandparents!! Those phone calls were met with pure excitement. I also called our church to let them know the babies were arriving! While Steve and my brother ate some lunch, I used that time to write one more time in my journal. I really was going to miss my built-in desk. While by brother was visiting us, he had been busy videotaping me "being pregnant"! He taped me lying on the sofa, trying to get up off the sofa, writing in my journal and turning around from back to front. Now he was going to tape us heading to the hospital and some of the first few moments of our babies life on earth!! We got our stuff in the car, a few more pregnant pictures taken and headed to the hospital. We arrived there right before 3:00 PM and got settled in a room. For the next hour or so, there was just a whirlwind of activity - all centered around me and the babies. I was hooked up to fetal heart monitors, had blood drawn and was measured!! Wow - was I huge!! Dr. Mac tried to find my fundal height - but stopped at 53 centemeters! I was 37 weeks pregnant and measured 16 weeks bigger than that!! No wonder I couldn't breath or sleep or eat!! If I was that big - how big would our babies be? After the nurse got some good readings on the babies, my best friend (for the next hour or so) came in! The anesthesiologist - the best guy ever - came in to get my epidural in. The actual part of getting the needle in was a bit uncomfortable, but all in all not too bad an experience. A ½ hour or so after getting the needle in, my legs started shaking. We attributed this, not to the epidural, but to being very nervous. I was about to have major surgery and become a mom in less than an hour.
