Separated

What happens when twins are separated for the first time? I don't mean separated at school or spending time alone with different friends. I mean truly separated for a whole weekend? We just endured this new experience of our boys being separated for the first time. My husband took Alec off for a weekend with him and Logan and I stayed home for a basketball tournament. They were separated from each other for about 48 hours and it was very interesting. It was interesting for the boys and, as parents of twins, it was interesting for us as well.

Now when I say "endured", it wasn't as bad as all that. The boys took their weekends in stride and "endured" the separation quite well. I, on the other hand, started the weekend a nervous wreck. Over the past 13 years, the boys have been separated from each other; but only for a short time. They have always been in separate classes in school, but that's only six hours. They have separated to go to birthday parties without each other, but again that was only for a few hours. Never have they gone away separately from each other for a whole weekend. I was worried about Alec being without Logan and me, I was worried about Alec and Steve being alone and I was worried about Logan being without Alec.

Alec and Steve left on Friday afternoon from school. I stood at the door of the school and watched them leave. The secretary assured me that it was a good thing, I wasn't sure. After school, Logan and I headed home and I said a little prayer, "Please God, keep Steve and Alec safe while they travel to Seattle." I believe I said many prayers over the weekend. Friday afternoon and evening, Logan went to a friends house to play. I was glad for that because he was already acting sort of lonely for his brother. I heard from Alec, so I knew they were safe in Seattle. Now I had to worry about their two hour drive to the resort where they were staying. And, I had to worry about Logan being at his friends house. So, I sat and watched TV and said more prayers.

Saturday, Logan and I were off to basketball games (after sleeping in). It wasn't until Saturday night that we heard from Alec again and he sounded a little bored. Logan was also bored most of the day (when he wasn't playing basketball). For me, it was a little taste of what having an only child would be like.
