It’s summer -- I’m Bored

© Carrie Webbenhurst

It's the second week of summer break and Logan says to me, "What are we supposed to do all summer?"

"Oh, oh," I think to myself. "What am I going to do? How am I going to keep these boys busy all summer?"

Don't get me wrong, I love spending time with my boys. And since we all three have the summer off, we will get to do that. But, I also have other things I want to get done. I don't have time to entertain them all the time.

As it turns out, I don't have to worry. They seem to be keeping themselves busy so far. They are finding things to do to keep busy.

And that is one great thing about having twins: they keep each other occupied!

Ever since they were little, even before they started walking, they have played together. I was able to leave them in their big, huge playpen to play while I did other things. And, mostly they have always played well together. There have been times when they fight, but those times are few and far between. We also had a problem with Alec wanting a toy from Logan and Logan just handing it over. Then, of course, Logan would cry because he didn't have that toy anymore. But that hasn't happened for quite awhile (at least since last week, HA).

I can only think of one drawback to them being twins and having each other as playmates. They very rarely have friends over to play. It usually never occurs to us to invite other kids over. It just never comes up--they keep each other busy.

Their playing together isn't even a one-sided deal; it's never been only one boy asking the other if he will play with him. Sometimes it's Logan asking, sometimes it's Alec.

I have heard one of them ask the other and he will say no. Then they come looking for Mom or Dad to play with them. Most of the time they will say yes and play whatever game has been suggested or suggest something else. Sometimes they will even bargain with each other, "I'll play basketball with you if you will play cards with me later."

So, flash forward to right now. I heard from Logan two times about what is he going to do this summer. Since then they have played basketball, baseball, pulled dead bushes, swam in the pool, played frisbee, played cards, watched TV, watched movies, read books, etc. And that was all in one day! They are keeping themselves busy--without me having to give them ideas here and there.
