SIZE 10 ½ SHOES?????

© Carrie Webbenhurst

Alec and Logan are 12 ½ years old now. They are not taller than me--yet! But they do wear bigger shoes than I do. There has got to be something wrong with that!!! My little babies are not allowed to be bigger than me--at least not yet!!!

I have always loved watching my boys learn something new and master it. But this nonsense about being taller than me and wearing bigger shoes than me--well that's just wrong.

All this school year, they have both been measuring themselves all the time. They go to our growth chart we have hanging up for them (by the way--you really want to have one of these because it is so important to kids to know that they have grown more), they are always standing next to me and trying to look me straight in the eye and they are always asking me how tall I am. The last time we checked they were 5' 2" for Logan and 5'1" for Alec. Now they are super excited to be taller than five feet, but that is only like four inches to go and they are taller than me (I'm only 5' 4 ¾").

Ever since they have been toddlers, I could tell when they were having a growth spurt. They would all of a sudden start eating constantly. We would have lunch and ten minutes later they would be hungry. And ten minutes later, they would back in the kitchen looking for something else to eat! This year I haven't been able to tell as easily, because they are ALWAYS HUNGRY!!! People have told me, "Just wait until they are teenagers!" What??? You mean it's going to get worse than this? The weird thing is they haven't grown as much as I thought they would this year. Sure they've gained another inch or so, but I was really expecting them to shoot up.

I think this year, all their growth has gone into their shoes and their waist size! We have had to go from size 14 jeans for Logan to a size 16 plus. And Alec has gone from a size 16 to a size 18!!!! And not to mention their shoes, from an 8 to a 9 ½ for Logan and a 9 to a 10 ½ for Alec!! At this rate, Steve and I are going to go broke just buying new shoes and jeans!

My problem is that I am not an expert on what to have on hand for them to eat. I would love some advice from anyone on healthy snacks to have on hand. With summer coming up soon, I will have lots of fruit available. But fruit isn't always what they want. So, I am asking for advice from other parents--what would you suggest I buy for my kids to eat???
