WHY WAS I BLESSED WITH PICKY EATERS?????

© Carrie Webbenhurst

Well, at least one picky eater that is!! Once again I will dispel the fact that twins are the same. When it comes to eating preferences, my twins are night and day different.

Back about 8 years ago, Steve and I went on an Alaska cruise to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We left the boys with Steve's' parents and his brother, Gary. Along with the boys I also left a long, lengthy list of foods that they would and would not eat. I even went so far as to list how they would prefer separate foods be prepared.

Example:

BREAKFAST FOODS

Cereal: ask if want milk and what kind of cereal (some days they liked milk on their cereal, other days they didn't. Or Alec would want milk and Logan wouldn't. Alec to this day will only eat one kind of cereal; Logan will eat many different types).

Waffles: Logan - ask if want Jam and Butter (he has been known to change his mind) Alec - ask if want butter on top of the syrup or vice versa (he has been known to get quite upset if it was not prepared the way he was wanting it that day).

Pop Tarts - usually don't put them in toaster (never seemed to like these hot, they still don't).

WILL SOMETIMES EAT THE FOLLOWING:

Toast - with jam and no crusts (Logan will now eat peanut butter on his toast, but still doesn't like the crust. Alec will eat the whole piece of bread).

SNACKS

Apples - cut in pieces. Alec will eat skin. Logan WON'T eat skin (this has not changed that much; Logan will eat the skin, but doesn't really like it).

And so on and so on: I listed lunch and dinner ideas, drinks, more snacks. You could go so far as saying that I was a little bit anal!! Well, I have to agree with you. I mean, these were my little 5-year old babies - I had to make sure they would eat. And, I had to make sure my in-laws knew what they would eat.

Flash forward 8 years and I would have to do the same thing today if Steve and I went on vacation. Although, the boys are now old enough - they could tell whoever was taking care of them what they liked and didn't like for meals. But the fact remains that they are both fairly picky about what and how they like their food prepared.

My kid's been a picky eater herself. A good friend of mine finally gave me the little bit of trivia that my kid will not starve if she doesn't eat everything (all the different kinds of food) ...
