Teens and Job Fairsany previous work experience, volunteer work, outside activities...anything that shows he is responsible and hard working. He should have with him all information needed to fill out the application. I once saw a teen have to run to find her mother to get her social security number. The annoyed look on the interviewer's face told me the girl would not get the job. Employers want people who are organized and professional. Teach your teen to be prepared to answer questions. Although a fair is noisy and busy, he should never appear distracted. Instruct him to look directly at the interviewer and to pay close attention. Even if the most beautiful girl in the world walks by, he must not turn to watch her. He should answer politely and without slang. Remind him to smile. Lean forward and seem interested. Sound excited when he talks about what he has done and why he wants the job. Have him prepared to explain why he wants the job. He should not focus on what he plans to do with the money, however. Instead, he should explain what he hopes to learn from the job and what he hopes to be able to give to the company and its customers. Your teen should give the interviewer as much time as requested, but should be prepared to move on when it is clear the interview is over. He should shake hands with the interviewer, thank him and tell him he is very excited about the company and that he looks forward to hearing from them. Remind your teen that the interviewers might be watching as the teen moves around the room. He should use an adult walk, not a cool teen walk. He should be alert, polite and interested with each person. If he bumps into someone, he should apologize. Tell your teen to watch for opportunities to look like a good person-pick up an item someone else dropped, help someone with an application and so on. He does not know who might be watching. Someone is always watching.
