Runaway

I know it may sound incredibly cruel, but I’m seriously considering investing in one of those harness things for children so she can’t get away from me in public. I’m also quite certain that as soon as I can afford it I’m buying door alarms for my house. I’ve been told there are actually alarms you can put on your doors for just this kind of situation. I know it may seem a little extreme, and that many people will say “just keep a closer eye on her”. If I didn’t know Abbey the way I do, I’d be inclined to agree with that line of thought. However, after what just happened, I really think that a few extra dollars spent on precautions couldn’t hurt.

I’ve got to keep her safe, and I’ve got to keep my sanity as well. It’s only money and I’d never forgive myself if she got seriously hurt. How do you make a child see danger in a world they perceive as free and open? What a hard lesson to teach, and how frightening the consequences if you don’t.
