My Daughter the Celebrity
I always say "Everybody knows Abbey" and while that can be a little overwhelming at times, I am glad to see my daughter make a mark on her litle piece of the world. Call it what you want, fame, notoriety, whatever, but she's got something that draws people to her and never lets them forget her.
The optimistic side of me says that this is actually a very good thing. As she continues to grow up in this community, people will get to know her better and learn more about Down Syndrome in the process. But I don't want it to stop there. I want these same people who approach us in the grocery store, to take what they've learned and share it with other people in other communities. Pretty soon, I hope that everybody will know about Down Syndrome and the amazing people who have it.
