Clothing OptionalI'm beginning to think that nudist colonies are not merely just a lifestyle choice but a throwback to our younger times when we fearlessly tossed aside our clothes and ran with abandon. My daughter thinks that not only are clothes optional but downright oppressive. I know from experience that when most kids get to be about 3 years old they decide to assert their independence in any way they can. Some kids may throw fits, or insist on doing certain things for themselves, but my daughter has decided to declare her independence with an unceremonial shedding of clothes. She not only thinks this makes her a self-made person but, she's fairly certain that mommy thinks it's the cutest thing in the world. Well, mommy does not always think it's cute. In fact, there are times that it jumps right over that cute boundary and enters the world of the bizarre. I will readily admit that when she first put on her own sock I was impressed. The day she took off her own pants I was thrilled, and when she removed her shirt for the very first time without any help from me, I was ecstatic that she was finally learning some self-help skills. The thing you have to know about my daughter is she really believes that she is entitled to a heaping helping of leniency because she is "special". So, naturally as she began developing her "self-help" skills, she was also seriously testing the limits of what she could and could not do. For example, taking off socks didn't warrant any attention at all, but taking everything off and running with a diaper in her hand could make mommy chase her and that was funny. I tried to stay positive about the whole thing, I really did, but it seemed that if things kept up, I would attend my daughters' high school graduation to see her wearing nothing more than a shirt and a goofy grin. I told her what a good girl she was, and encouraged her to leave her clothes on and be a "big girl". Oh sure, and miss out on all this fun? What could mommy possibly be thinking? Yes, it seemed that mommy's thoughts were the only one's she was interested in since she didn't display this behavior to anyone else, that is, right up until the night she decided to let her big sister in on it and even add something new to the act. After all, mommy wasn't laughing any more so it was time to step up the cute factor.
