Summer Arts & Crafts Fun

Are the kids bored with summer vacation yet? Perhaps they need some craft projects or easy, fun activities to do at home. If you're looking for interesting projects for them to work on, here are some online sources for fun arts and crafts:

There's a Web site called make stuff. com that offers all sorts of do-it-yourself ideas, for kids and adults, too. Their Project Library is organized into categories, and you can either browse by category or use a keyword search feature to find interesting project ideas. The Kid Stuff category includes ideas for kitchen magnets, tissue paper flowers, and several other craft projects. Detailed instructions are given for doing each project, and there are also some pictures. You'll also see offers for "free stuff" on this site.

The Children's Television Workshop (the people who bring you Sesame Street) has a Web site called CTW Family Workshop. They offer both online games and activities, and offline activity ideas. Click on Activity Time and you'll find information on projects like making felt butterflies. Many more craft ideas are available at the "More Activities" offline crafts area.

Next, there's a wonderful Web site called HomeSchoolArts that offers free online lessons in drawing and painting. Their K thru 6 section includes projects for younger kids (for instance, a colorful fish mobile), while other areas offer lessons for aspiring artists of all ages. There are lessons on pen & ink drawing, pencil, watercolor, and more.

You can find more ideas for fun summer crafts and activities at some of the Web sites in my list of links. And if you know of any other sites featuring great kid's crafts, please let us know through the Discussion area. Let's all have some summer craft fun!
