Wilman saw the misty shapes of Meg, Dan and Beauty. Tony joined them and they galloped off together. The woman felt a soft nuzzle on her cheek as they ran off into the distance. This case is unusual because the horses and woman saw the ghost of Meg, then, as the others died, their ghosts appeared and were perceived by horse and human. One of the major problems in dealing with the paranormal is that there are people, like the Lutzes and William Weber of Scamityville fame. Scamityville is my term for "Amityville," a hoax dreamt up to make money. It spawned lawsuits, all of which were either won or settled. It was debunked by the American Society for Psychical Research, the Psychical Research Foundation, CSICOP, Stephen Kaplan, Anita Gregory, the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Center, U.S. District Court Judge Jack Weinstein and the Amityville Police Department. Weber sued the Lutzes for his share of the profits. Weber, de Feo's defense attorney, admitted Scamityville was a hoax during an interview. While I was doing research for this article, I found three other cases of riderless horses perceived as ghosts. I have an extensive paranormal library, research the Internet and talk to people. The next "ghost horse" story is just that, a fabulous story. Many years past, by Leatherwood Creek, Clay County is how I was told about this. A family was on the front porch and saw a large white horse with a halo above it. No date, no state and no name of the family. When one writes about paranormal events, there are times when confidentiality is required and names, places and some details might be changed to protect this. My "sonar" went up. The horse headed for the house and the people ran inside and looked out of windows to see what the horse would do. The horse leapt onto the porch and tried to break down the door by stomping on it. It was gigantic and still had the halo above its head. The family charged out of the back door and ran up the hill behind the house. They watched it back out of the house into the front yard. It rose up into the air until it disappeared, but the halo remained in the sky for a long time after the horse vanished. I have also heard about the spectral horse who has been sighted by many people since first seen in the 1920s. The horse is seen, ambling near the railroad tracks, in Erwin, Tennessee near the National Fish Hatchery, usually at night.
