Horses have demonstrated psychic ability, called anpsi, a part of the paranormal realm. Their sixth sense, psychic ability, has been well documented. They sense the imminent arrival of a loved one, telepathy. They sense natural and other disasters, precognition. They find their way back home, homing. These are the subjects of Part I. Horses as ghost seers and horses as ghosts is Part II.
One of the most engaging cases I have read involves four horses. The most amazing part is that this one involves equine ghost seers and equine ghosts. Dan was a five year old dapple grey and Beauty, a black mare who was four. They were the original horses the Thones bought. They were harness horses. Beauty gave birth to a black filly, Little Meg. In summer, she would hang her head over the porch rail and watch her human family inside the house. When she was thirsty, she would put one foot in the water barrel and stir until it roiled before she drank. If the water became muddy, she would dump the water, then neigh for clean water. The horse's stalls were lined up next to each other, Dan's, then Meg's and Beauty's. Meg took sick and died in one cold January. Neither of the two horses would enter her stall, acting as if a horse was there. Meg, in life, teased Beauty by standing in her way, so she nudged Meg and made huffing sounds until she moved. Meg also blocked Beauty's way by lying down. Beauty had to wait until she stood so she could go by. After Meg died, Beauty would perform these actions as if Meg were there. Witnesses noticed water in the barrel would roil for no apparent reason after Meg died. Dan and Beauty, when Meg was alive, would wait until the water stilled before drinking. Sometimes, when the horses drank, Meg would nose her way between their heads and drink. Beauty would step back and make huffing sounds. They did the same things after Meg's death. During the hot weather, the horses were put out to pasture at dusk and brought back to the stable in the heat of the day. One day, when Wilman went to stable the horses, she saw Meg grazing with the other two. She raced to her, but she disappeared. The first time this happened, she thought she was imagining it, however, she saw her other times. Whenever she tried to get close, Meg would vanish.
