Eleanore walked from her house to her grandmother's home in Budha on that inter day in 1925. On the way, she found some money and spent it on candy, which she ate. One of her cousins argued with the girl about her eating all of the candy and the grandmother overheard this. The woman was reputed to be a witch.

The grandmother told Eleanore that the money had been left by Dracu, the Devil and that buy buying the candy with it, she ingested Dracu and would never be rid of him.

Eleanore stayed at her grandmother's house that night. The next day, stones hit the house and broke windows. Small objects close to the girl jumped about and flew. The grandmother believed the psychic phenomena, psi, was a sign of possession and the superstitious villagers agreed. Eleanore returned to Talpa. Three days later, the psi returned.

The Zuguns were eating dinner and a rock crashed through the window. It was round and wet, like those in the nearby river. Her father ran to get a priest who drew a cross on the stone and threw it back in the river. It flew back in the house through the open window. They took it to mean that Dracu was more powerful than the cross.

Eleanore was sent to stay with a neighbor. The psi continued. She was beaten. She was threatened to be sent to a lunatic asylum.

Eleanore was frightened and ran away. When she returned home, she was exorcised. The psi increased. A metal pot burst and windows shattered. A mass was performed. The psi only worsened.

Finally, she was sent to a convent. A heavy table levitated. Nuns' habits were aported from one cell to another. The walls were thick and the doors were locked. There were more masses and exorcisms. She was examined by psychologists and was hypnotized. All of this did not end the psi.

Finally she was diagnosed as insane and sent to an asylum.

Eleanore's plight attracted the press' attention, which in turn, attracted the attention of psychical researchers. Fritz Grunewald, a German researcher, went to Talpa and talked to as many people as possible about the case. He also was able to persuade Eleanore's father to have her released from the asylum. He witnessed some of the psi.

Fritz returned to Germany to try to find friends the girl could stay with. He was a bachelor. Before he could do this, he had a fatal heart attack.
