My First Paranormal Investigation and Ghost Toursyear, we incorporated this into the ghost tours. I even was bold enough to promise the guests that they would see real ghostly phenomena. Then, there was the skeptic. I was sitting at the desk when he came in. He told me he did not believe in ghostly things. He said he and his wife were skeptics. My response was that was fine. I gave my "kick-off" speech. I talked about earthbound spirits. The children in the audience loved it. When I talk about the paranormal, I make it very clear that there is nothing to fear. The tour guide came in and Mr. Skeptic slowly rose from his chair and made grunt-like sounds. His wife said, "You're scared, aren't you?" He admitted he was. I would talk about Samhain, Hallowe'en customs and traditions. I also did demonstrations. One of the customs is to write something on paper that one wants to get rid of, then throw it into the fire. I used a metal mixing bowl as a cauldron and had a fat black candle in it. I also had a goblet filled with colored water that looked like wine, just in case I inadvertently goofed and caused more of a fire than intended to burn the paper. I did my demonstration and noticed that the paper and hot wax were burning. The guide came in, and most of the people were out of the room, so I threw some water on the fire. Geesh, the flames really came up and they hissed. I was stunned. The few remaining people in the room looked at me. I smiled and said "Pyrotechnics!" I was embarrassed. One night, a couple, as a part of their son's birthday present, took the children on the ghost tour. There were two boys around the age of ten who told me they had dipped their fingers in the goblet of "wine" to taste it. It was hard not to laugh. There was the little boy of about five or so who, while his parents were getting their tickets, peeked into the decorated room. He touched his hand to his face and said "Wow, would you look at that!" There was a young woman who had had some psychic experiences. As it turned out, she was a student at Moravian. We chatted for a bit, then she asked me to tell her mother she was not crazy. So, I did.
